Dutch license plates and the RDW
Only if you enter a Dutch license plate does MoveJack fetch make, model, fuel and CO₂ emissions from the RDW, the Dutch vehicle authority. Only the plate goes to the RDW. For a US plate the app fetches nothing; you fill in make, model and fuel yourself.
What goes to the RDW?
The app makes two requests to opendata.rdw.nl. They contain only the license plate, without hyphens and in capitals. Nothing else goes with them, apart from what comes with any internet request, such as the IP address of your connection.
When does that happen?
- when you leave the license plate field;
- when you set the plate country to the Netherlands;
- when you save a vehicle while make, vehicle type, fuel or CO₂ is missing;
- when you open an existing vehicle whose data is missing;
- during the same steps in the wizard.
What does the app fill in?
From the RDW’s response, the app fills in the make, the model (the trade name), the vehicle type, the fuel and the CO₂ emissions. It only fills in fuel and CO₂ if you had not entered them yet.
Only for a Dutch license plate
Since version 2.0.48 the app only requests data for a Dutch license plate. Up to and including version 2.0.47 on iPhone and 2.0.45 on Android, the app did this for every plate entered.
