Common questions
The questions we get most often.
About your data, the cost and everyday use. For the story behind the app: why MoveJack exists. Question not here? Ask us directly — you will hear from someone who knows the app. How the mileage tracker app records your trips is on a page of its own.
Data and privacy
What happens to my data?
Your trips stay with you, on your own phone, not on our servers. How that works technically.
What if I lose my phone?
With your own backup you put your trips back on a new phone. Because your trips stay with you and MoveJack keeps no central copy, you make that backup yourself: create a backup file in the app under My data and keep it somewhere other than your phone. The file is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere you trust. For your records, also export to Excel or PDF now and then; by default the app reminds you on the 1st of every month.
Can I take my data with me?
Yes. You export to Excel or PDF yourself, whenever you like — entirely under your control.
Cost
What does MoveJack cost?
The first three days are free, with no account. After that you pick a term: monthly, every six months or yearly. On iPhone MoveJack costs $6.99 a month, $39.99 every six months or $59.99 a year; on Android $8.99 a month, $49.99 every six months or $79.99 a year. Payment and cancelling run through the App Store or Google Play.
How much can I deduct or be reimbursed?
As an example, at 1,000 miles in every month of 2026 (6,000 miles at 72.5 cents and 6,000 at 76 cents), the 2026 standard mileage rates add up to $8,910 for the year — reimbursed tax-free under an accountable plan, or deducted on Schedule C if you are self-employed, as long as you can substantiate the trips. More in the guide.
Everyday use
Do I need any hardware?
No. No box in the car and no OBD dongle. Your phone records the trip, and you carry it anyway.
Can it separate business from personal?
Yes, by itself. Enter your home and work address and MoveJack works out what is personal, business or commuting.
Can I produce reports for my accountant?
Yes. Per period, vehicle or client, as Excel or PDF, ready to send.
Is MoveJack available for Android?
Yes. Since September 2, 2026 MoveJack is in the Google Play Store, and in the App Store for iPhone. Both versions record trips and hours on the device itself.
Are all MoveJack features available on both iOS and Android?
Almost. Trips, hours, time on site, vehicle recognition, reports, CO₂ and the trip score are on both. The personal assistant runs on iPhone only for now, because it needs the language model on the device itself.
Rather just try it?
Three days free, no account. Most questions answer themselves in that week.
