Permissions and app lock
MoveJack asks for permission to use your location and to send notifications, and first explains what for. You can lock the app itself with Face ID or your fingerprint.
Permissions in the wizard
In the Permissions step, each line says what the app needs something for, with an Allow button. Your phone’s own request only comes after that.
- Location, required: “Needed to record your trips automatically, even when the app is in the background.” Choose Always (on Android: Allow all the time), with precise location.
- Notifications, optional: “So you can see when a trip has started or been added.”
- On Android, Battery optimization off, optional: “Prevents Android from throttling trip recording in the background.”
Other permissions
- Bluetooth: when you pair a tag. On Android that is called Nearby devices; on iPhone the operating system itself asks for it.
- Motion & Fitness on iPhone, or Physical activity on Android: for recognizing trips.
- Camera or photos: when you add a photo of your vehicle.
Under Settings › Permissions you see the status of each line, with a button to open your phone’s setting.
Without the right permission
If location is only allowed while using the app, the home screen says in red that background location is off and that trips are not being recorded. Without location permission, recording does not start.
Locking the app
Under Settings you turn on Lock app (biometrics). The app then asks for Face ID, Touch ID or your fingerprint when you open it and when you return to it. This is off by default. If your phone has no biometrics, the app simply opens.
