Where your trips are stored

Your full trip history is in the app on your own phone. MoveJack keeps no central copy of it.

What is stored where?

Your trips, GPS points, addresses, vehicles and settings are in an app database on your phone.

The location engine also keeps points that have not yet been processed into a trip, for up to seven days, and its own log of three days. That is on your phone too. After each processed trip, the engine clears those points.

Reports and backup files are separate files on your phone. See exporting and backup.

No central copy

There is no MoveJack server that receives or keeps your trips. The location engine has no upload destination. The app does not sync your trips to us.

What does go to external services, and why, is in external services and what leaves your phone.

Not in iCloud or Google either

Your trips are not included in your phone’s automatic backup, with iCloud or Google. So a new phone does not start with your trips by itself; that is what your own backup file is for.

Good to know

  • The app does not separately encrypt its database.
  • If you lose your phone without your own backup file, your trips cannot be recovered.
  • If you delete the app, your trips are gone from your phone. On Android, reports and backup files stay in the Documents folder. See wiping and deleting data.
