Reports and records
MoveJack and the IRS
MoveJack records your trips and turns them into reports. Whether your mileage records hold up is for the IRS to judge; MoveJack makes no statement about that.
What does MoveJack record for each trip?
The date, the start and end time, the start and end address, the distance based on GPS, the category, the vehicle and a comment if you add one.
What do you add yourself?
- Your car’s actual odometer reading: you read it yourself and note it down where that is required. The app counts GPS mileage.
- The purpose of a trip, as a comment on the trip.
MoveJack keeps no history of changes to a trip: the app only stores the current state.
Counting private kilometers
The app can count your private kilometers per calendar year, against a threshold that is set to 500 km by default and that you set yourself. At 80 and 100 percent you get a notification.
You turn it on under Settings › Private-use limit, or with the Private this year tile on the home screen. It is off by default, and it counts for one vehicle that you choose. Trips without a vehicle do not count.
The app works out the count and the notification when the Private this year tile on the home screen loads.
The mileage rate
In the US, the standard mileage rate for business use in 2026 is 72.5 cents a mile through June 30 and 76 cents from July 1, according to the IRS.
In the app you set your own rate. See claiming.
What MoveJack does not do
MoveJack does not say that the IRS accepts your records. Check for yourself that your records are complete.
