Bluetooth tag in the car
With a MoveJack tag in your car, the app knows which vehicle you are in, so the journey goes to the right vehicle.
What does the tag do?
The tag is a small Bluetooth beacon in your car. When the tag comes near, the app puts the next journey on that vehicle. When the tag has been out of range long enough, the journey ends.
The home screen then shows “In the car” with the number plate, or “No tag in range”. If Bluetooth is off, the app warns that journeys will not go to the right vehicle.
Pairing a tag
Open the vehicle, choose Tag koppelen › Zoek tag (pair tag › search for tag), and tap Kies (select) next to the MoveJack tag that was found. In version 2.0.48 the app shows these buttons in Dutch, whatever language you use it in. The app only shows MoveJack tags, and you can only pair a tag with a car.
On Android the app asks for the Nearby devices permission for this. On iPhone the operating system itself asks for Bluetooth when the app first uses it.
Journeys without a tag
Once you have paired a tag, you decide under Settings › Tags what happens to a car journey without the tag present:
- Trips without a tag as ‘Unknown’: the journey is saved without a vehicle. On by default.
- Delete trips without a tag: the journey is not saved. Off by default; if it is on, it takes precedence.
This does not apply to bike, train, bus and tram journeys.
Data and external services
The link between tag and vehicle is stored on your phone. The app code makes no network requests for the tag.
On Android the app uses a library for Bluetooth beacons. Whether that library itself fetches anything from the internet, we have not established: we have not inspected that library’s code.
iPhone and Android
On Android the tag is available. The code of version 2.0.48 also contains a path for iPhone, but whether the tag is available on iPhone, we have not yet established.
