Privacy and data

Privacy by data flow

Your full journey history is on your own phone. A few features do need an external service. Here you find, per data flow, what happens.

The starting point

Your journeys are recorded and kept on your phone. MoveJack keeps no central copy of your full journey history, and you do not create an account with MoveJack.

Your journey history only leaves your phone when you choose that yourself, for example by exporting a report or keeping a backup file.

What does go out, per feature

  • Speed limit: a position to Overpass at most once every 8 seconds, even outside a journey; while driving, about every 8 seconds.
  • Address: after the journey, the start and end point to Nominatim.
  • Train, tram and bus check: after the journey, a few route points to Overpass and Nominatim.
  • Missing speed limits: when you open a journey, route points to Overpass.
  • Map and search: map tiles of the area you are looking at and the text you search for, to Mapbox.
  • Number plate: a Dutch number plate to the RDW, the Dutch vehicle authority.
  • Navigating to your car: your car’s location as the destination, to your phone’s maps app.
  • Subscription: purchases and status via the App Store or Google Play and RevenueCat, without name, email address or journey data.

This happens without a name or account, though together those requests show your route. As with any internet connection, every service the app contacts sees the IP address of your connection.

What you share yourself

A report you send, and a backup file you keep. They only leave your phone if you do that. See exporting and sharing and backup.

What is not in it

There is no analytics or crash reporting in the app, and no advertising. See analytics, tracking and cookies.
