Common questions
The questions we get most often.
About your data, the cost and everyday use. Question not here? Ask us directly — you will hear from someone who knows the app. For the story behind the app: why MoveJack exists. How the mileage tracker app records your journeys is on a page of its own.
Data and privacy
What happens to my data?
Your trips stay with you, on your own phone, not on our servers. How that works technically.
What if I lose my phone?
With your own backup you put your trips back on a new phone. Because your trips stay with you and MoveJack keeps no central copy, you make that backup yourself: create a backup file in the app under My data and keep it somewhere other than your phone. The file is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere you trust. For your records, also export to Excel or PDF now and then; by default the app reminds you on the 1st of every month.
Can I take my data with me?
Yes. You export to Excel or PDF yourself, whenever you like — entirely under your control.
Cost
What does MoveJack cost?
The first three days are free, with no account. The current price for your country is in the App Store or on Google Play, where the subscription is taken out.
How much can I claim free of tax?
At 1,000 miles of business travel a month you can be reimbursed up to £6,000 a year free of tax at 55p a mile — provided you can evidence the journeys; the app keeps the trips, the purpose you add. More in the guide.
Everyday use
Do I need any hardware?
No. No box in the car and no OBD dongle. Your phone records the journey, and you carry it anyway.
Can it separate business from private?
Yes, by itself. Enter your home and work address and MoveJack works out what is private, business or commuting.
Can I produce reports for my accountant?
Yes. Per period, vehicle or client, as Excel or PDF, ready to send.
Is MoveJack available for Android?
Yes. Since 2 September 2026 MoveJack is in the Google Play Store, and in the App Store for iPhone. Both versions record journeys and hours on the device itself.
Are all MoveJack features available on both iOS and Android?
Almost. Journeys, hours, time on site, vehicle recognition, reports, CO₂ and the trip score are on both. The personal assistant runs on iPhone only for now, because it needs the language model on the device itself.
Rather just try it?
Three days free, no account. Most questions answer themselves in that week.
